LOS ANGELES - LPGA Tour rookie Allisen Corpuz and LPGA Tour veteran Amy Olson both aced the 134-yard, par-3 18th in the opening round of the DIO Implant LA Open, the 11th and 12th holes in one of the 2022 season. A former University of Southern California Trojan, Corpuz’s slam dunk got a rise out of the Los Angeles fans who haven’t been on-site at Wilshire Country Club since 2019, and the 24-year-old was happy to be able to contribute to the CME Group Cares Challenge - Score 1 for St. Jude.
“I hit a really solid 9-iron and it took a small bounce and went in,” said Corpuz. “It looked really good in the air, but it just looked like it was going to be close until it disappeared. It's always hard mid-round when it happens. There is that little bit of an adrenaline boost. But, it was really nice. Got some high fives throughout the group. I think (St. Jude) is definitely an awesome organization for the money to go to, and I'm really glad it'll support them.”
Olson matched Allisen’s ace on 18 with one of her own, holing out with an 8-iron near the end of the morning wave. “We had wind herding off of the left, and I kind of threw my 8-iron up there, tried to draw it into the wind, and it really looked good right from the start,” she said. “It's a phenomenal cause. Obviously, that puts things in perspective, right? When you have a bad day on the golf course and you realize what some kids, what some families are going through. So to be able to make their burden a little bit lighter is obviously a great cause, and happy I was able to contribute.”
The CME Group Cares Challenge is a season-long charitable giving program that turns aces into donations. CME Group donates $20,000 for each hole-in-one made on the LPGA Tour in 2022, with a minimum guaranteed donation of $500,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which is leading the way in how the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and life-threatening diseases. $40,000 will be contributed to the CME Group Cares Challenge - Score 1 for St. Jude raising the 2022 season total to $240,000.
